Welcome New Members The Council
for Responsible Jewellery Practices (CRJP) has announced that LVMH,
Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton and Van Cleef & Arpels have now
joined the organization. Other new members include the American
Gem Society, diamond brokers and consultants, Bonas & Co. Ltd,
luxury jeweller, Piaget, Placer Dome, a global mining company, and
DTC sightholder and jewellery manufacturer, Suashish Diamonds Ltd. Dubai
Russia Diamond The Dubai Metals and Commodities Centre
(DMCC) has announced that it will establish a Dubai Russia Diamond
Working Group. This is with the objective of facilitating and enhancing
the co operation between the diamond industries in Dubai and Russia.
Russia will be represented by Alrosa and Smolensk Kristall, while
Dubai will be represented by the senior management at DMCC. The
recent Russian delegation to Dubai to initiate discussions about
the working group was headed by Alexander Nichiporuk, President
of Alrosa. Malaysian Jewellery
The Malaysian government has said
it has recognized the potential in the local jewellery industry
and is keen to build a solid platform for it to emerge vigorously.
Since the execution of Promotion of Investment Act 1986, the production
of jewellery in Malaysia has been promoted actively by granting
tax incentives. This, together with the abolition of import duty
on loose stones, has given Malaysia a better chance to become an
important jewellery manufacturing and trading center in the region. Get set for the Hong Kong The
Hong Kong International Jewellery Show takes place over March 6-9,
2006 in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, The 2006
edition of the show will include participation of over 1,800 exhibitors,
including group pavilions from Belgium, the Chinese mainland, Du-bai,
India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand,
the US, International Colored Gemstone Association, Japan Jewellery
Association, Japan Jewellery Designers' Association and Platinum
Guild International, as well as the first time participant - the
Philippines. Israel's polished diamond Israel's diamond
leaders have reported that the in dustry ended 2005 with growth
in all areas. Import and export statistics for the Israeli industry
showed net polished exports in2005 rose 5.8% to reach US$6.707 billion.
Rough diamond exports from Israel rose 20.5% in 2005 to reach US$3.517
bil lion. Net imports of rough diamonds totaled US$5.318 billion,
an increase of 3.2% over 2004. Israel's imports of polished diamonds
