been rendered legally binding by a formal decision adopted by the
European Commission (EC). Following a phasing out from 2006 to 2008,
De Beers has said it will refrain from all purchases of rough diamonds

Status Index (LBSI) ultra-luxury jewelry survey from New York based
Luxury Institute, Harry Winston earned top honors as the most prestigious

The World Diamond Council (WDC) has
concluded its fourth Annual Meeting in Catania, Sicily. Over 100
representatives of the international diamond and jewelry industries,
governments, international organizations and NGOs reaffirmed their
commitment to prevent the infilration of conflict diamonds into
the legitimate diamond trade. The Meeting was hosted by Dr. Gaetano
Cavalieri, the president of CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation,
and by the Government of the Province of Catania, which also sponsored

for gold in 2005 Consumers
and investors pushed demand for gold to arecord level of US$ 53.6 billion in
2006, according to figures recently published by the
World Gold Council (WGC). All catagories of demanding, including
jewellery recorded double-digit year-on-year grownth in dollar terms.
Overall jewellery demend in 2005 was 5% higher than 2004 in tonnage
terms and 14% higher in dollar terms. New annual demand records
were set in 2005 in UAE, Vietnam and, for the third successive year,

first time in the 10th Brazil Gem Show, Over March 15-17, 2006 hosting
an ICA Pavillion with over in Governador Valaderes, Brazil, an area

opened 2006 with a bang as its recent important Jewels sale achieved
the Highest total ever in its 16-year history of jewellery
sales in St.Moritz. At the sale, a world record for a ruby per carat
was set. A cushion cut Burmese ruby ring of 8.62 carats realized
a price of US$425,000 per carat for a total of US$ gemstones and
wristwatches at the Palace Hotel in the famous ski resort of St.
Moritz. From the 476 lots offered, 360 were sold, resulting i3.6
million. After the sale, the pieces, made by Bulgari, was dubbed
"The Graff Ruby" after its buyer, famous jeweller, Laurence
Graff. The previous record was US$278,000. "This is the finest
rubyI have ever seen and I am delighted to own it," said Laurence
