Richemont, the Swiss luxury goods group, has announced that its sales in the quarter ended 31 Decmber 2005 increased by 16% at actual exchange rates compared to the previous year. At constant exchange rates, sales increased by 13%.
De Beers
In a recent and historic decision, De Beers has agreed to stop buying rough diamonds from its closest rival, Russia 's Alrosa. Commitments entered into by De Beersto end purchases of
rough diamonds as of 2009 from Alrosa. The world's second largest producer, have been rendered legally binding by a formal decision adopted by the European Commission (EC). Following a phasing out from 2006 to 2008, De Beers has said it will refrain from all purchases of rough diamonds from Alrosa.
Harry Winston rated
According to the new Luxury Brand Status Index (LBSI) ultra-luxury jewelry survey from New York based Luxury Institute, Harry Winston earned top honors as the most prestigious purveyor in its segment as rates and ranked by America's penta-millionaires. Tiffany and Cartier tied for second place; Mikimoto was third.
Kimberley Process educational posters
The US Kimberley Process Autority (USKPA), in cooperation with the World Diamond Council (WDC) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), has produced an educational poster targeted to retail stores, sales associates, and manufacturers that explains the Kimberley Process and the Voluntary System of Warranties. VNU Expositions announce
Lee Arevian has been appointed to the position of jewelry Group Vice President of VNU Expositions. VNU Expositions Jewelry & Entertainment Group President John Failla said, "Lee's extensive tradeshow experience, make him the ideal candidate for this important position." In his new role, Lee Arevian will be responsible for the JA Shows, Couture Jewellery Collection & Conference, Signature Salons and the Fine Jewelry CEO Summit. Lee Arevian said. Diamond industry challenged by Hollywood
The World Diamond Council (WDC) has concluded its fourth Annual Meeting in Catania, Sicily. Over 100 representatives of the international diamond and jewelry industries, governments, international organizations and NGOs reaffirmed their commitment to prevent the infilration of conflict diamonds into the legitimate diamond trade. The Meeting was hosted by Dr. Gaetano Cavalieri, the president of CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, and by the Government of the Province of Catania, which also sponsored event.
Color Story wins

Eight of the world's top jewelry retailers have pledged to move away from "dirty" gold sales and are calling on mining corporations to ensure that gold is produced in more socially and environmentally responsible ways.

Demand for gold in 2005
Consumers and investors pushed demand for gold to arecord level of US$ 53.6 billion in
2006, according to figures recently published by the World Gold Council (WGC). All catagories of demanding, including jewellery recorded double-digit year-on-year grownth in dollar terms. Overall jewellery demend in 2005 was 5% higher than 2004 in tonnage
terms and 14% higher in dollar terms. New annual demand records were set in 2005 in UAE, Vietnam and, for the third successive year, in Turkey.

ICA Pavilion debuts in Brazil
The international Colored Gemstone Association participated for the first time in the 10th Brazil Gem Show, Over March 15-17, 2006 hosting an ICA Pavillion with over in Governador Valaderes, Brazil, an area rich in natural gem resources and a center for the mining and cutting of gemstones. Occupying an area of 2,500 square meters for gem traders and exhibitors alone, the show also included exhibits from the jewelry sector and supply companies such as those displaying mining equipment and technology for transforming gems into jewels. Many leading overseas companies also participated in the show.

World record for Ruby
Christie's opened 2006 with a bang as its recent important Jewels sale achieved the Highest total ever in its 16-year history of jewellery sales in St.Moritz. At the sale, a world record for a ruby per carat was set. A cushion cut Burmese ruby ring of 8.62 carats realized a price of US$425,000 per carat for a total of US$ gemstones and wristwatches at the Palace Hotel in the famous ski resort of St. Moritz. From the 476 lots offered, 360 were sold, resulting i3.6 million. After the sale, the pieces, made by Bulgari, was dubbed "The Graff Ruby" after its buyer, famous jeweller, Laurence Graff. The previous record was US$278,000. "This is the finest rubyI have ever seen and I am delighted to own it," said Laurence Graff.
Antiquorum New York sale
World famous jazz composer and pianist Keith Jarrett's Collection represented the main body of the recent Antiquorum Spring sale. In at Addition, approximately 280 timepieces were offered for sale in its auction of "Important Collectors" Wristwatches, Pocket Watches & Clocks, including Watches from The Collection Of Keith Jarrett."
