Alexander Hasenfeld, founder of diamond manufacturer and supplier Hasenfeld-Stein in New York, has made a generous contribution to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in support of the Institute's nonprofit education and research mission. Hasenfeld, a longtime GIA supporter, will be inducted into the Institute's League of Honor Sept. 19, 2005, at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York.

CIBJO concludes annual
CIBJO, the World Jewelry confederation concluded its annual congress in Hong Kong, delivering a strong message that it will continue to take a leadership role on behalf of the entire jewelry and gemstone business world wide in maintaining the consumer's confidence in the products it sells. The congress was attended by 160 delegates from 29 countries. The congress was hosted by the Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers Association.
Worldwide diamond sales
Preliminary indications are that global retail sales of diamond jewelry for the year were about 6.2% higher than the previous year in local currency and, because of the continued
weakening of the U.S. dollar, about 8% higher in U.S. dollars, De Beers said Thursday.

Anthony Hirsh Eatablishes
Anthony Hirsh, founder and managing director of Hirsh London, has given a $100,000 gift to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) to support student scholarships at the Institute's london branch. This marks the first major financial contribution made to support prospective students who want to attend GIA classes in London.
