Brazil exports have been mined, and government certificates accompanying
one quarter of Brailian exports are fraudulent, says a new report
issued recently by Partnership Africa Canada (PAC). PAC is now calling
for Brazil to be suspended from the Kimberley Process Certification
Scheme, until a full and independent investigation can take place. Singapore

Jewelers and gems suppliers from over
20 countries, including Thailand, Hong Kong, India, and the USA,
are getting ready to congregate at Suntec Singapore International
Convention & Exhibition Centre, over 29 June-2 July 2006, at
the second Singapore International Jewellery Show (SIJS) 2006. Jointly
organised by Conference & Exhibition Mangement Services Pte
Ltd, the exhibition is co-hosted by the Singapore Jewellers Association.
Diamond Exchange of Singapore and World Gold Council. SIJS 2006
is expected to attract 15,000 visitors from 30 countries, both trade
and public. Dalumi wins
Dalumi was recently awarded by The
Israel Japan Friendship Society and Chamber of Commerce as the best
exporter of diamonds to Japan in 2005. Japanese ambassador to Israel,
H.E Jun Yokota, complimented Asher Dalumi, the Company's president,
for the important role Dalumi has played within the diamond market
in Japan. IDI launch new brand The
Israel diamond industry has upgraded its brand identity with an
international campaign launched at BaselWorld 2006. The new brand
is the result of extensive strategic research process led by the
Israel Diamond institute (IDI) over the past year, with the association
of Parazar Brand Boutique. Swarovski's CRYSTALLIZED Swarovski
is celebrating the launch of the sixth edition of its bi-annual
CRYSTALLIZED I magazine with news that has won the UK Magazine
Award 2005 in the category, "Best DesignedFashion Pages."
The publication
brings crystal fashion news to Swarovski's global customer base,
opinion leaders and designers. First direct elections The HRD will organize elections on
May 3rd-4th for six representatives of the diamond dealers in its
Board of Directors. The elections fit the execution of the first
phase of the restructuring of the organisation, HRD said. For the
first time in the history of the HRD part of the members of the
Board of Directors are being elected directly by the diamond dealers
themselves. The members of the Board of Directors were nominated
by the 13 member organisations of the HRD. The elections only concern
the mandates which are reserved for the diamond dealers. The representatatives
of the bourses (3) and of the industry (2) will be appointed by

GIA laboratory The
Gemological Institute of America (GIA) announced that it has updated
its Identification Reports for Colored gemstones, and that, rubies,
sapphire, and alexandrites will now receive their own gem-specific
reports. In the past, only emeralds received their own reports.
"Because of the growing number of increasingly sophisticated
treatments for gemstones in existence today, more research and time
is needed to identify and analyze gemstones, "said Tom Moses,
senior vice president of the GIA Laboratory and Research. "As
a result, we continue to expand our testing processes." Turquoise Turquoise
is found in many countries, but is most commonly associated with
the Southwest US, China, and Iran, which is home to some of the
finest of the finest quality Turquoise. First mined on the Sinai
Peninsula (part of modern Israel) and transported to Western Europe
through Turkey, Turquoise got its' name from Europeans who mistakenly
thought that it was found in Turkey. The name comes from the medieval
