Peter Meeus joins DMCC

The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) has announced the appointment of Peter Meeus as Special Advisor, Diamonds. DMCC is looking to further develop its industry specific market
infrastructure and plans to optimise and widen its services to the global diamond trade, it said.
Brisk business at 20th

There was a large turnout of visitors at the recent Mideast Watch and Jewellery Show, said the organizers. The Show attracted over 6,800 visitors on the first day. By the end of the second day, the visitor numbers totalled 14,097, with brisk business being reported. A majority of the visitors at the Show came from the GCC region. Visitor also came from Thailand, India, China, Pakistan, Iran, Lebanon, Malaysia and Singapore.

DDC celebrates 75th
The leadership of the International diamond and jewelry industries gathered in New York recently to celebrate the Diamond Dealers Club 75th anniversary. During the event, the DDC received a special international trad achievement award from the US Department of Commerce, which was presented to Club President Jacob Banda by Dr.David A.Sampson, Deputy Secretary of the US Commerce Department.

In a new report, Partnership Africa Canada reveals an illegal tri-border diamond smuggling system, operating completely outside the international Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) for rough diamonds. The cross-border diamond smuggling is made possible by weak controls in Brazil and Venezuela.

Platinum 2006 reports that demand for platinum reached 6.7 million oz in 2005 , platinum reaached 6.7 million oz in 2005, and annua rise of 160,000 oz. ICA congress
The CIA Board of Directors has announced that the 2007 ICA Congress will be held in Dubai, April 28-May 2, 2007. TheCongress will be sponsored by the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC). "Dubai is of great interest to ICA members as it has a solid jewelry manufacturing base and because it has great potential in the consumer market for colored gemstones, " said ICA President Josept Menzie. "The businessopportunities there are vast and with the government initiatives developing Dubai as a mega trading center, we will hear more and more about conducting business in and from Dubai."
