announce new president The Manufacturing
Jewelers Suppliers of America (MJSA), has announced the appointment
of Frank Dallahan as President and CEO of MJSA. Mr. Dallahan replaces
James F. Marquart, who recently retired."Frank brings over
30 years of induatry achievement, credentials, and contacts to this
position, "said Michael Akkaoul, Chairman of MJSA. "We
look forward to his contributions to all of MJSA's diverse interests,
including its educational programs, membership intiatives, AJM Magazine,

An increasing number of men and women
are choosing jewellery as a form of investment, with platinum being
one of the main attractions. Diamonds mounted on platinum pieces
are increasingly becoming a popular way to invest money, as they
can be kept safe, but also brought out and worn on special occasions. Dubai offers new jewellery
Dubai Metals and commodities Centre
announced the official launch of The Jewellery Store, a DMCC company
providing a new service to jewellery wholesalers and retailers.
The Jewellery Store dmcc uses Radio Frequency identification (RFID)
tags to identify and track individual articles of jewellery before
they are sold. Retailers will be able to carry out stock checks
using handheld scanners. New
Gem Lab opens in New York
Mark Gershbrug, formerly the CEO of
EGL USA, has left the company to open his own gem lab in New York
City. Mr. Gershburg worked at EGL USA for 22 years, starting as
a grader and was promoted up to Director and later CEO. He oversaw
the growth of the lab in the last decade. Mr. Gershburg's new lab,
called Gemological science International, will be located at 581
fifth Avenue. Joining him from EGL USA will be Debbie Azar, as Executive
Vice Presidet. JA New York celebrates
The JA New York Winter Show returns
to its home at the Jacob Javits Convention Center January 22-24,
2006 celebrating its 100th year. The Winter Show kicks-off the new
year as the first major show of the season and is expected to attract
a top quality collection of designs, while also providing educational
opportunities for both retailers and exhibitors. Italian Jewellers Market picks
up
Italian jewellery exports figures
during the first 5 months of 2005 showed an increase of 12.8% over
the same period in 2004, and also posted grownth in value in proportion
to the number of pieces sold. This positive trend was reflected
at the recent Orogemma in Vicenza. Despite slight drops in both
overseas and italian operators, business volumes were reported to
be high. The event saw 14,887 operators, 10,632 local and 4,262
from overseas, covering 109 countries. There were significant increases
recorded from central-eastern europe, While Portugal and Spain were
well-represented, with a slight drop for France and Germany being
recorded. CIBJO President calls on silver industry Dr. Gaetano Cavalieri, the president
of CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, gave a speech recently
to the fourth Annual China International Silver Conference (CISC),
held in Lijiang, Yunnan Province. In his speech, Dr. Cavalieri explained
CIBJO's role in maintaining consumer confidence in jewelry products
and spoke about the importance of global cooperation synergy in

Jewellry demand up GFMS
Limited, the percious metals consultancy, has released Gold Survey
2005-Update 1. Its latest report on the gold market. GFMS reports
that jewellery fabrication increased 16%, around 200 tonnes in the
first half, with India, The Middle East -- particularity Turkey
and Saudi Arabia -- and China seeing the largest gains. Strong economic
growth in key markets and acceptance of prevailing price levels
were the main reasons for this, says GFMS. Jewellery demand, excluding

gemstone carver and sculptor, Tom McPhee has been commissioned by
the company to work with the 200 carat ruby rough it recently recovered

ITDCA hold Mini-Marathon
in Bangkok The
Indian-Thai Diamond and Colorstone Association (ITDCA) recently
held a Mini-Marathorn in Bangkok's popular Lumpini Park. This first-time
event was successfully organized by Mr. Atul Jogani, president of
the ITDCA. Pol. Maj. Gen Charumporn Suramanee was also in attendance
to open the Mini-Marathon. A large coowd of spectators gathered
